This exhibit will feature a selection of landscape images by
photographer Derek Jecxz. Central to the theme are photographs that expose
overlooked or forgotten natural landscape scenes from across
North America, untouched and as Derek found them.
Derek creates his art while on photographic journeys where he
travels to remote locations, such as Canada’s Northwest
Territories, Labrador or other obscure spots throughout the
United States.
Derek
drives thousands of miles to get to these places, focusing for
weeks on end on only one thing: making the photograph. He does
all of his own printing, nothing is outsourced.
In stark contrast to
the crowded metropolis of his birth, Derek’s photographs
reveal the path less traveled, the quiet, intimate and
forsaken landscape that exists without witness. Far more than
merely snapshots of scenic views, his photographs offer a
personal perspective of the world.
Prints range in size from 9x11 to
37x48.

Reflections on Bosnia and Croatia
Photographer and
Dakota Ridge Gallery owner Dan Hugos recently traveled to Bosnia and
Croatia, two countries many Americans don't associate with
vacation destinations. However, he came away with a much
different view than he expected, nuanced especially by the
people, and the events that shaped their recent past.
Rather than try to focus strictly on the
effects of war, Hugos found that there was far more to his
impressions of these countries. Bosnia for example, seems
like one of the greatest multi-cultural experiments anywhere,
and Croatia, while visibly closer to the West, struggles with
its own demons.
These images try to impart something of
the experience.
